Chasing Lights · Tromsø

The northern lights big bus chase

The same company as the minibus chase, in a bus for up to 50 guests, with photographer guides who drive as far as the clouds demand. Pick it for the price: you get the chase and the photos at about half the cost, if you bring your own warm clothes.

Northern Lights Big Bus Chase

About this experience

This is the larger version of Chasing Lights' chase. Up to 50 guests board at the Prostneset bus terminal at 5:20 pm, and photographer guides take the bus wherever the forecast looks best. Guests report drives of three hours or more, and one group went all the way to the Finnish border.

What you get: photographer guides, a full photo gallery at no extra charge, and a hot drink with hot water. What you don't get: warm clothes, tripods, a meal or hotel transfers. That is the difference that roughly halves the price compared with the minibus chase. Chasing Lights' own site lists adults from NOK 1,100 and children from NOK 660.

The listing gives a return time between 22:30 and 03:00, and it says there are no refunds or free trips if you don't see the lights or if you miss the bus at the meeting point. With 50 people at one spot, it's less personal; a few guests also mention the coach being very warm inside, so layer up in a way you can peel off.

  • About half the price of the minibus chase from the same operator
  • Photographer guides and a full photo gallery at no extra charge
  • Child tickets for ages 0 to 12
  • Hot drinks at the viewing spot
  • Guests report long drives to find clear sky, even to the Finnish border

What guests say

★★★★★

They drove us like 3-3.5 hours to find clear skies. And they found it and it was amazing. We were lucky it was one of the perfect nights for dancing lights.

Our guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, with a lot of positive energy. They found clear skies despite not fantastic conditions, took wonderful photos, served hot drinks and biscuits, and built a fire.

  • Wear layers you can take off: guests say the coach gets very warm.
  • Eat before 5 pm. There's no meal, only a hot drink.
  • A small tripod for your own camera helps; the operator doesn't lend them on this tour.
