  to early April (Visit Tromsø). Midnight sun prevents viewing from around mid-April to early September (UiT).
- The aurora is often most active between about 20:00 and 02:00 (Visit Tromsø); NOAA SWPC: best within an hour
  or two of local midnight, and a full moon reduces its apparent brightness.
- Statistically some kind of aurora appears over Tromsø on every other night (UiT); a gap in the clouds
  is also needed. No tour can guarantee a sighting.
- Polar Night in Tromsø: late November to late January (Visit Tromsø). The January temperature normal is -4.4 °C (1961-1990, MET Norway).
